History of the "Cruise Into Fall" Car Show
The
originating sponsor of the first Cruise Into
Fall Car Show was the Renaissance/Main
Street Program and was designed to bring
activity to the downtown business district
and to showcase historic downtown Glasgow.
With the Renaissance/Main Street Program,
the opportunity was there to make subtle but
important changes to the down, like new
landscaping, a sidewalk clock and façade
improvements to the building. The time had
come to bring people back downtown to enjoy
the changes and to do business with downtown
merchants. While there were other festivals
and events being held there was nothing that
took advantage of the beauty of the downtown
in the fall.
The first Cruise Into
Fall Car Show was held on the second
Saturday in October in 2001. County Judge
Executive Davie Greer was the Chairwoman for
the first car show and also chaired the
event for the next two years. Approximately
____ cars were at the first show to be
viewed by a large number of spectators
who strolled the streets of downtown
Glasgow.
The car show was free to
the exhibitors who brought the cars and that
is still true about all the other shows.
Most exhibitors make donations as they come
thru the registration. Those generous
donations and the recent addition of Event
and Trophy Sponsors have helped us keep
improving the car show. In 2007 were able
to install an outdoor sound system that
really brought a more festive atmosphere to
the annual event.. The numbers of cars
exhibited has steadily grown over the eight
previous years. In 2008 we had over 370
cars registered and the variety was awesome.
The Renaissance/Main Street Committee has
been so fortunate to have the help of many
volunteers who have been dedicated to making
the Cruise Into Fall Car Show one of the
best in the South Central Kentucky area.
And we thank you, the car owners who
continue to support the show by their
attendance and who have brought many of
their friends with them the next year. It’s
a fund day, the people are friendly and we
give lots of awards to the best and most
favorite cars in the show
